Trashin' the Moon is a full-length psychobilly satire inspired by the real August 5, 2026 Falcon 9 upper-stage impact on the Moon. What began as an unexpected piece of space junk became a scientific opportunity, a news story, and eventually a DrumZombie song.
The official video takes the joke all the way to the lunar surface.
The Story
On August 5, 2026, a spent SpaceX Falcon 9 upper stage, cataloged as 2025-010D, struck the Moon after spending more than a year in a highly elliptical orbit.
Scientists knew it was coming. What had started as abandoned space hardware became an unexpected opportunity to observe an artificial lunar impact, its flash, ejecta and debris.
And somewhere in there was the wonderfully human absurdity that sparked Trashin' the Moon: we managed to litter another world, then pointed telescopes at it and called it science.
That was too good to leave alone.
